I'm not one who really believes that your nails need to breathe, but I figure making a polish breathable can't be a bad thing right? This will allow air flow to the nail plate and possibly allow my jojoba oil to penetrate my nails through the polish.
As stated by Orly: Our Breathable collection uses an advanced oxygen technology that allows for oxygen and hydration to pass through, a technology similar to contact lens, which promotes nail growth, increases nail thickness and helps heal damaged nails.
So I set off to try these....
The bottles say to apply 2 coats of color to a bare nail. And that's about it. This isn't going to be a true testing review because I opted to use a glossy top coat even though these do dry glossy on their own. I'm just not complete with a coat of top coat.
I did swatch these on my bare nails. I found they applied better onto a naked nail. I know many refuse to wear polish without a base coat on, so these might not work as well for you if you try them over one, though I'm not 100% sure on that either. I only tried one over a peel off basecoat and it went from smooth (on the bare nail) to streaky, so I assume it was the extra basecoat I added. I will have to do a true wear test with and without base coat and top coat if I can find the time.

All of my swatches are 2 coats of color and a coat of top coat. The formula is nice and easy to apply. They're not thin or too thick. I recommend a decent sized bead of polish for an even application. I didn't have much flooding but I could see it happening if you have too big of a bead of polish. I experienced zero staining on my nails which is fantastic!

ReplyDeleteFYI, Orly now has a breathable base/top/clear coat that can be used to ensure the entire manicure is breathable. Use of this as a topcoat is necessary for pedicures to not smudge. Otherwise love these polishes as well as the new Breathable Calcium and Protein treatments.
